Hawaii Kai located on Oahu's south shore approximately 12 miles east for the Central Business District of Honolulu and is the largest of several residential communities at the southeastern end of the island. The town was primarily developed by billionaire industrialist Henry J. Kaiser, around the ancient Maunalua fishpond and wetlands area known as Kuapā into an affluent suburb.
Hawaii Kai is located along Maunalua Bay. The bay is famous among jet skiers, parasailers and boaters. Maunalua means "two mountains" and refers to Koko Crater and Koko Head, the two peaks located east of Maunalua Bay.
Sandy beach is also an excellent spot for bodyboarding and bodysurfing opportunities due to shore break that breaks very close to the shore, and consistent barrels all along the beach. Sandy Beach is a popular beach for the local crowd, and, due to its quiet location and powerful waves. The beach park is located between Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve Park on the west and Makapuʻu Point.
Also, home to the Halona Beach Cove also known as the "Eternity Beach" because of its feature from the famous 1950s love story From Here to Eternity.
Take a hike up the Makapuʻu Point Lighthouse Trail which features stunning views of the windward coast and offshore islets, as well as the historic red-roofed Makapu'u Lighthouse.
A golfer's paradise. Hawaii Kai Golf Course is located just 13 miles east of Waikiki and features a championship course with a challenging layout, elevation changes and skilled dogleg holes. The facility also features an executive course perfect for beginners or hone your skills.
Take in the sights of the Koko Crater Botanical Garden which focuses on the cultivation of rage and endangered dryland plants. In 1958, Koko Crater on the eastern side of O'ahu was set aside for development into a botanical garden. Plant collections occupy sixty acres of the inner slopes and basin of this 200-acre crater.
Hawaiʻi Kai is located within the Hawaiʻi Department of Education Kaiser Complex and is home to Henry J. Kaiser High, Hahaʻione Elementary, Kamiloiki Elementary, and Koko Head ElementarySchools. Henry J. Kaiser High is an International Baccalaureate World School, accredited by the Western Association of School and Colleges, certified nationally in AVID and AFJROTC, state certified in Career and Technical Education, and is home of the international award-winning Media Communications Learning Center.
